Welcome to the Mt. Prospect Veterans blog. Here we will discuss information about military veteran’s events and information that we hope will be both interesting and provide value to you.
Memorial Day is a day unlike any other.
Since 1868, we have come together in our communities to place flowers and flags on graves of our fallen heroes and come together in services to honor those who have paid the ultimate price in the name of freedom.
For whether a war is popular or not, the sacrifice is the same for the more than one million men and women who died in service of this nation in wars and conflicts since 1775. Americans must remember that freedom is not free. It is only possible because our fallen heroes have paid its high price. Let us not lose focus of what Memorial Day means; it is a day to remember.
To our fallen heroes on this Memorial Day, we are in your debt and we thank you. May God bless them and this great nation of ours. Our hope is that the memory of each life is held in an embrace of dignity and compassion, and in that remembrance there is comfort for the grieving and healing for all of humanity so that peace may come.
The Memorial Day Parade in Mt. Prospect begins at 9:35 AM, Monday May 26th. Beginning at Emerson and Busse roads (across from Village Hall) and proceeding South on Emerson to Lincoln. Going Left (East) on Lincoln St. to the entrance to the Lions Park Veterans Memorial Band shell.

Buddy Poppies to help veterans
On May 15th look for the members of Mt. Prospect VFW Post 1337 around town collecting Buddy Poppy donations to aid, assist, provide relief and comfort of needy or disabled veterans or members of the Armed Forces and their dependents, and the widows and orphans of deceased veterans. The Buddy Poppy Program has helped the VFW live up to its motto, "to honor the dead by helping the living." See the Project List for more information about the Buddy Poppy program.
Youth Baseball
The best of the best high school baseball players will soon take the field sponsored by the Mt. Prospect American Legion Post 525.
